How I Did It, or, Brad’s Guide To Writing Gayrotica!

July 29, 2014 // 0 Comments

(Also, here’s a hot guy for you!  I’m using him as my inspiration for one of the two dudes in my upcoming Rock Star story…no, I’m not telling yet if he’s the dom or the sub!) So I’ve been cogitating on my career lately, as writing heteromance has given me some distance from “being Brad Vance” for a while.  I just recently put my gayrotica shorts up on AllRomanceEbooks, where the dirty stuff is sellin’ like hotcakes. And my biggest selling series is the “Sam’s Reluctant Submission” stories, even now.  I’m giving away the first story in all three series – Sam, Colum and Luke – but it’s Sam the people want.  So as I think about what to do next that will A, sell, B, be the basis for at least four stories (because bundles are where the $ are), and C, be something I’ll really enjoy writing, I’m trying to figure out exactly what it is about Sam that sells.  And, more cosmically, what it is that really makes gayrotica tick. Sam has a lot of components [MORE]

The Countdown Begins…BookBub Friday for “A Little Too Broken”!

July 27, 2014 // 0 Comments

I’ll be dropping the price a few days before that on all platforms.  I got caught out by Amazon on my BookBub for “Given the Circumstances,” when it turned out that 36 hours wasn’t enough time for them to process my price change.  Yeah, definitely going to push through my changes on Tuesday this time! Sooo, you can wait and get it for .99, or you can buy it now for 3.99, keeping in mind that 50% of the profits go to IAVA and WWP.  So that’s about $1.40 donated per copy at full price, but $0.175 a copy at the sale price. I should still reap a hefty sum for both charities during the sale, as I’m pretty sure I’ll make up on volume what I lose on price, since I sold like a thousand-plus copies of GTC at .99.  And GTC is still selling steadily since the BookBub, even at the restored price. Other than that, I’ve been working hard on my heteromance.  Really need to get that out the door before I return to “bein’ Brad [MORE]

Onward and Upward with the Erotic Arts…

July 20, 2014 // 0 Comments

Working hard on my heteromance this month – recent insurance/health care nightmares have put my focus entirely on what will make the most $$$.  You’re pretty fucked in this country if you don’t have ’em.  But!  I do have outlines written for that rock star series of gayrotica shorts.  With luck they’ll be as big a seller as the “Sam” series is turning out to [MORE]

I’m Still Alive! Dealing with Insurance Bullshit all Month…

July 16, 2014 // 0 Comments

But as the song says :0  Working hard on my heteromance this month, or at least as hard as I can with all the distraction of hours on the phone fighting the health care system.  But that should (might!) be over now.  Getting ready for the big BookBub for “A Little Too Broken” August 1, but otherwise Brad is a bit dormant right [MORE]

Calling all hackers! Scam site “selling” copies of “A Little Too Broken”!

July 11, 2014 // 0 Comments

And thus stealing money from not only me, but from IAVA and WWP.  Nice, right?  Here’s the address: http://www.romancepdf.com/ They’re selling a weird assortment of titles – “Colum’s Viking Captivity” (free elsewhere), “The Worst Best Luck” (my worst best book lol), and, yes, “A Little Too Broken.”  I’m told they aren’t even really selling the books…just phishing for credit card info.  All the same, pretty fucking sleazy, amiright? So, all you white hat hackers out there on Team Vance, your mission, if you choose to accept it – DESTROY ALL MONSTERS! [MORE]

Why is “Character Development” a dirty word in Romance?

July 5, 2014 // 14 Comments

Okay fine, it’s two words 🙂  My point is, I’ve been pubbing for almost two years now, and I’ve published four romance novels in the last year (holy crap, with a full time job to boot – no wonder I’m tired!).  And I’ve had a lot of reviews, mostly positive.  But I’ll ask you all, because it baffles me – why do so many readers (not you Team Vance members, or else you wouldn’t be here) dislike it when I do character development? For me, there are two important things in CD – backstory and research.  A character’s backstory in the Vance Canon has always ended up being either his childhood/youth, or at least enough of his life to show how he got to be who he is.  “A Little Too Broken” goes back as far as Tom’s injury in Afghanistan, just after realizing he might be gay, and Jamie’s toxic relationship with the emotional abuser who gave him HIV.  For “Given the Circumstances” I [MORE]

B-B-BOOOOOK BUBBBB!!!! WHOO! Set for August 1 for “A Little Too Broken”!

July 3, 2014 // 0 Comments

WHOO!  BookBub accepted ALTB for a three-day promo starting August 1.  This will mean a huge boost in sales, and in turn, a huge boost in donations I can make to IAVA and Wounded Warrior Project.  For July, I’ll be back to donating 50%, and splitting it between IAVA and WWP.  For August, that should amount to a BIG chunk of change!  “Given the Circumstances” sold like a THOUSAND copies from the day I dropped it to .99 in advance of the BookBub, and still sold a couple hundred when it went back up a few days later to the still-dirt-cheap-for-a-novel $2.99. Everyone’s always “so excited” about everything these days, but I REALLY AM!  BookBub RULES! [MORE]

Three. Hundred. And Forty Dollars to IAVA for June!

July 1, 2014 // 5 Comments

Praise the FSM, June was my Best Month EVER.  And we raised $340 for IAVA!  WHOOO!  As always, I’m not waiting 60 days to get paid before I put in the donation, but it’ll be a day or so while I resolve a cluster with my bank account 😦 . Full disclosure ‘n’ all that 🙂  I’m hoping to get ALTB accepted as my next BookBub book, which would make for another HEWGE donation month! Also, check out the modified cover – Denise at Shh Mom’s Reading suggested a “sticker” for it to highlight the charitable bit 🙂  I wanted something subtle that didn’t mess up Aubrey Watt’s awesome cover design.  Hope you like!
