THE YEAR I GOT SHIT DONE, and My Gay Agenda for 2018!

December 28, 2017 // 0 Comments

I had a pretty bad depression a few weeks ago. A slump is typical near/at Dark O’Clock, but this one really sucked. The only thing that cheered me up was looking at everything I’ve done this year. And, just as importantly, I think, the things I stopped doing because I was beating my head against a wall. Since January I have: Written, workshopped, rewritten, subbed for coverage, rerewritten, a complete screenplay, the adaptation of A Little Too Broken. My first screenplay, and it finaled on /r/screenwriting’s 2017 comp, Semifinaled at Diverse Voices, Quarterfinaled at WeScreenplay, and Quarterfinaled at Shore Scripts. All in the face of a lot of wizened grizzled “expert advice” like “humba dumba your first script will be shit humba dumba, and  your second and your third humba.” Fuck you, old man (he said, having just turned 55)! I don’t need your negatude! Wrote, Directed, Produced and Acted in CRUNCH, the pilot episode of a web series! There [MORE]

“Crunch” release delayed, post prod issues…

December 22, 2017 // 0 Comments

Adobe Premiere Pro ate the project file, and my editor had to start over… So yeah. “Crunch” episode one is still coming to a device near you, just not sure when. I’m pretty frozen on doing anything with the next episode until this one gets out in the world. And, it was the darkest dark of Dark O’Clock yesterday, the time when my creativity is at its lowest, so not much else going on. I dream of the day I’m rich enough to cancel Winter – to just get on a plane and spend the three worst months of it on a tropical island… sun sun sun, sea sea sea, long warm [MORE]

“THE RED STUFF” a new short screenplay!

December 10, 2017 // 0 Comments

Here’s the link on Google Drive! A Modest Proposal retake, for our modern economy. It’s been through my screenwriting group and it’s a strong script. 20 pages, it’s long for a short, I know. Down from 23 though! The adage I read is that if you can’t tell the story in less than 20 minutes, it probably needs to be a feature. My group suggested I go there with this, as they did with another piece in progress, but fuck! I can’t! I need to focus on Stabitha and make some fucking money, of which I have none, before I spend time on long shots like spec scripts! The money wolves are baying hard at my heels, and I didn’t get shit done on Stabbers this last week, with clinical depression setting in hard. Not because of anything I did wrong, for once, and on maximum mood stabilizer dose, like seizure-level dose. Just because winter, and broke. I’m using CBD, the THC-free cannabis extract, and it’s keeping the wolves from taking any flesh off [MORE]

I’m a Designer! ETHEREUM and “SOON” clothing at Teespring!

December 9, 2017 // 0 Comments

I did this Ethereum design a ways back, put it up on RedBubble but that was it. Teespring just made it a lot easier to use their designer tools, so now I put it up there as well. It’s a real ETH QR code, with the blocks arranged to spell Ethereum (I know, you can read!) with the ETH diamond in the middle. Then, I worked with Bey Deckard to execute (heh) my idea for a T shirt for Our Times. So order yours now! The Bradish Empire expands again! More ideas to [MORE]

More from Brian and Carrie in STABITHA!

November 28, 2017 // 0 Comments

This is really rolling along, 16k words so far! I’ll have to pub it as “Derek Vance” because marketing, but if (warning magical thinking ahead) it becomes truly huge, I’ll switch out Brad for Derek on the title and fuck ’em if they don’t like gay romance. It’s taken me long enough to “transition” from my old self to Brad, the last thing I plan on doing is transitioning again in the public eye to another name, especially one that will only exist because “branding” means Brad’s back catalog would negatively impact Stabitha’s potential success. (NOTE IRONY that I need to worry about people who love serial killing being offended by gay sex.) A serial killer / homicide detective, so good at both jobs! And corrosively funny in the darkest way. And I do think it will be truly huge. Could be. Always could be, because I want to cry when I think about sales and marketing. The only reason I’d ever go back to [MORE]

“Crunch” Episode One in POST PRODUCTION! Coming Soooon!

November 24, 2017 // 0 Comments

Here’s the script!  It’s true. We filmed last Saturday and TBH it’s taken me this long to get around to writing about it. Sunday was a physical collapse day. My DP sent me the footage in a 90 minute compilation and Monday was about selecting my favorite takes. And I’m gonna say it now, this is SO GOOD. I know, everybody blah blahs their own shit, marketing hype blah. Well, you’ll see for yourself in a couple weeks or less. Then Tuesday, well, that was Collapse Day. The lion’s share of work was done and I could just come down from what started in July as a funny short script. So here’s how I, a first time director, got it done, and done well. First and foremost, and y’all know I hate that shit when people are all “oh I’m so shocked and honored and humbled just to be one of about one million people nominated for this award!” I take credit where it’s mine, and when it comes to my novels, well it is all mine [MORE]

“A Little Too Broken” Screenplay: SEMIFINALS in Diverse Voices comp!

November 16, 2017 // 2 Comments

I was a 2017 finalist in Reddit’s screenwriting sub. I made quarters in the WeScreenplay comp, and now semis in Diverse Voices. Tomorrow they announce semis in Shore Scripts Drama competition. So yeah, never listen when someone says “Humba dumba throw away your first script because it’s shit, humba dumba.” They just want to sound like they’re smoking a pipe and wearing one of those big brimmed “writer’s hats” on their heads – you know, the ones in all their publicity photos that are meant to say, I live a life of adventure! OH YEAH, and Crunch episode one… films THIS SATURDAY! OH YEAH YEAH, and “Stabitha” is up to 13,000 words 🙂 I’ll feed you more of serial killer/homicide detective Brian O’Connor in a day or two, but today (and let’s hope tomorrow! are all about celebrating competition advances for ALTB. Who knows, with Call Me By Your Name and Love, Simon coming out soon… maybe someone [MORE]

Here comes… “STABITHA” a serial killer thriller, and a new pen name…

November 12, 2017 // 2 Comments

Yes, like a phoenix from the flames, my transformation out of gayrom is nearing completion. “Crunch” episode one films next weekend, and I’ve started work on a serial killer thriller called “Stabitha.” Ten thousand words have already just fallen out of me without even trying, and knock wood/no whammies, this should be out in February. More info to come! Of course, I’ll need a new pen name, website etc., but in the Vance Family Tradition, I’m splitting myself into yet another horcrux. I was going to use “Derek Vance” for a mainstream thriller I never got to (consumed by magical thinking aka pure unhinged desperation at the time), so now’s his chance! I do believe this book could be the start of a beautiful relationship, between me and serial killer/homicide detective Brian O’Connor. But without further ado, let me introduce you… STABITHA – Chapter One It doesn’t bother me, the sight of this young woman’s [MORE]

$40 from “A Little Too Broken” AUDIOBOOK to IAVA! $5,840 and counting!

October 30, 2017 // 0 Comments

Astonishingly, the ALTB Audiobook made $85 in September! But yeah… that’s on 34 copies. So I made about $2.50 apiece on an audiobook that “lists” on Audible for $14.95. Hey! That’s better than the $1.50 apiece on Given the Circumstances, which lists for… $19.95. More Amazon Bullshit – they lured me into exclusivity with this 40% royalty shit, and I thought, cool! I’ll make $8 on a $20 audiobook! They DIDN’T tell me about Whisperfuck, er Whispersync, which let buyers of a $3.99 audiobook add an audiobook for a fraction of the price. BUT… suddenly, it appears that Amazon has changed their policy. With no notice, of course, as always… but for the better. Suddenly my $3.99 ebooks will require you to pay an astounding $7.49 to add the audio! Instead of $1.99. I have no idea when this happened. But hey, maybe audiobooks are worth doing again, which they were definitely not at <$1 apiece royalty… [MORE]

“A Little Too Broken” screenplay in quarterfinals of TWO comps!

October 25, 2017 // 0 Comments

Yaaas! It’s in the quarters at WeScreenplay (top 25% of 900 screenplays)… and at Shore Scripts, where it’s in the top SIX PERCENT of THREE THOUSAND screenplays! And there’s still the Diverse Voices quarters announcements coming November 15th! And these are straight up drama/feature comps, where the gayness is obviously not negatively impacting my progress… People all say “no contest means anything but Nicholl and Austin,” but… “People” also said, “throw away your first screenplay, and your second, and your third, because they’re shit.” Ahem, this is my first screenplay. You know, there’s always someone who wants to play the role of Crusty Old Sea Captain on the USS Hollywood 🙂 I feel great. Movie making is HAPPENING for me, with Crunch #1 filming November 18th, this script making it in the comps… The USS Brad is moving full steam [MORE]
