$40 from “A Little Too Broken” AUDIOBOOK to IAVA! $5,840 and counting!

October 30, 2017 // 0 Comments

Astonishingly, the ALTB Audiobook made $85 in September! But yeah… that’s on 34 copies. So I made about $2.50 apiece on an audiobook that “lists” on Audible for $14.95. Hey! That’s better than the $1.50 apiece on Given the Circumstances, which lists for… $19.95. More Amazon Bullshit – they lured me into exclusivity with this 40% royalty shit, and I thought, cool! I’ll make $8 on a $20 audiobook! They DIDN’T tell me about Whisperfuck, er Whispersync, which let buyers of a $3.99 audiobook add an audiobook for a fraction of the price. BUT… suddenly, it appears that Amazon has changed their policy. With no notice, of course, as always… but for the better. Suddenly my $3.99 ebooks will require you to pay an astounding $7.49 to add the audio! Instead of $1.99. I have no idea when this happened. But hey, maybe audiobooks are worth doing again, which they were definitely not at <$1 apiece royalty… [MORE]

“A Little Too Broken” screenplay in quarterfinals of TWO comps!

October 25, 2017 // 0 Comments

Yaaas! It’s in the quarters at WeScreenplay (top 25% of 900 screenplays)… and at Shore Scripts, where it’s in the top SIX PERCENT of THREE THOUSAND screenplays! And there’s still the Diverse Voices quarters announcements coming November 15th! And these are straight up drama/feature comps, where the gayness is obviously not negatively impacting my progress… People all say “no contest means anything but Nicholl and Austin,” but… “People” also said, “throw away your first screenplay, and your second, and your third, because they’re shit.” Ahem, this is my first screenplay. You know, there’s always someone who wants to play the role of Crusty Old Sea Captain on the USS Hollywood ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel great. Movie making is HAPPENING for me, with Crunch #1 filming November 18th, this script making it in the comps… The USS Brad is moving full steam [MORE]

Crunch Episode 1 Filming 11/18! Here’s a mockup of the intro!

October 24, 2017 // 0 Comments

Yeah, I know, it looks kinda crappy. But I made it in PowerPoint, okay? As a proof of concept for whoever makes theย real credits – that is, someone who’s more artistic than I. (Never did get past stick figures…) And the top seems to be cut off in preview… Hmm. We had a great rehearsal yesterday and I’m stoked. I’m so ORGANIZED! I have a shot list, I’ve had a rehearsal/script analysis session with my actors, I’ve had a walk through with my DP w/my storyboards… I ain’t fuckin’ around! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll keep you posted! In the meantime, enjoy…? [MORE]

And… First draft of CRUNCH: Episode 4 is up!

October 19, 2017 // 0 Comments

Warning: it’s so wrong ๐Ÿ™‚ https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6TXe7KJuW7hYlh6clkyTy1QSDA This is now an 8 episode “season” rather than 10. I don’t want to repeat myself, which I could see happening as I looked at a couple proposed story lines, and I’m asking actors to commit to a recurring project. And fuck, if this doesn’t make us beloved and famous in eight episodes, it ain’t gonna [MORE]

Episode 3 of “Crunch” is written and UP!

October 18, 2017 // 0 Comments

I’m a machine! I’m planning a 10 episode “season.” I’ve got plenty of premises, but, yeah, we’ll see how #1 flies when it goes up. Here’s the link! In Episode 3, Liz defaults her $100 monthly payment to Jake, and Jake must now result to desperate measures to make his rent. You can read all episodes and other good stuff by clicking the Scripts link [MORE]

“Crunch” filming postponed…and that’s a good thing

October 17, 2017 // 0 Comments

There’s a movie filming in the area that, well, pretty much everyone in local acting/filmmaking is involved in at least a bit, making some actual bank doing what we love. So until that’s done filming, resources are pretty scarce for a short film. That said! It’s actually a good thing. Being the run run go person I am, I wanted to get it done now now now. This is forcing me to stop, therefore allowing me to take the time to do full rehearsals and script revisions, along with the storyboarding and shot lists I’d already done, all of which will make the actual filming day go pretty smoothly (knock wood) or at least as smoothly as a filming day can go. I feel really good about this series… once #1 goes up on Vimeo, well, we’ll see if I’m crazy. I know that short film is as accursed as selfpub when it comes to the horrors of promo, that the best thing in the world will sink like a stone without someone constantly beating the drum. But I now know [MORE]

My first acting reel clip is UP on YouTube!

October 11, 2017 // 0 Comments

“Victim’s Angry Testimony,” because we’re told to make it easy for casting directors to find what they’re looking for, so don’t name it “Brad Vance Reel Clip #1.” And they no longer want to see 2 minute clips of all your various stuff together, just the short relevant bits broken up. So if they want to cast an angry victim on a crime show, well, there’s the clip! I need a few more clips before I can get on Actors Access, etc., but then again, I’ll have MY OWN WEB SERIES STARRING ME pretty soon! So that’s a clip cornucopia in itself. We’re filming October 23rd! So stoked. I’m producing it myself, I’ve got the shooting script broken down into a shot list, I’m taking photos to make storyboards so the shooting will go faster, I’ve done the casting, I’ve got the location (easy, just my house), the only budget is crafty (that’s how We Industry Types refer to craft services aka food). “Crunch” web series in PREPROD, episode one on Vimeo in NOVEMBER!

October 7, 2017 // 0 Comments

LOGLINE:ย When a permanently outsourced tech worker becomes strapped for cash, he turns his basement into a low-end dormitory, where six desperate Millennials face a Darwinian struggle to survive. (Tagging this with “Comedy” so you don’t think it’s Saw or something!) It’s true! This is really truly happening! We’re filming the first episode this month, and then if it lands with The Vimeogoing Public, we’re off to the races… And I could use your financial help, please click here on my Sponsor page for details ๐Ÿ™‚ You can read the episode one script here. And there are links on my sponsor page to more. As I mentioned, getting that callback was a life changer, because it told my head, conclusively, that I can do this, and that my head should shut the fuck up with all its negatude and naysaying! This is my first foray into directing, and Thank The FSM I have a great DP who’s going to hold my hand through it. I’ve been immersed [MORE]

Episode 2 of “Crunch” is done! Read it here!

October 3, 2017 // 0 Comments

Here’s the latest edition of episode 1, after a pass through my screenwriters’ group and a staging in acting class. And here’s the first draft of episode 2! And episode 3 is almost written, still missing an essential component but it’s coming. I’m really flying on these. I have a friend who’s volunteered to film it, lots of actors willing to be in it, and of course I have the location any time I want it! So it’s really happening! We should be filming by early November at the LATEST!ย  Part of setting the whole thing in the house was to give it a desperate / claustrophobic feel, but also because it’s the only location I can access any time I want. That’s one logistical challenge I won’t face! My confidence is sky high right now in the creative department. I auditioned for a role in a Real Motion Picture, and not only did I get a callback but I got phenomenal feedback on said callback from a big LA casting director. Which [MORE]
